So I don’t know if I’ve been working toward honing in on my unexpected talents per se, but suddenly I am having a surge of crafty desires that is getting a little overwhelming.

Just yesterday I was so very enthused about calligraphy, which makes perfect sense for me, considering my elementary school past-time of copying down alphabets and every person in my family’s names’ in different handwriting styles.

I have also gotten in the habit of printing off recipes of Indian food, Thai food, Chinese food, Mexican food, etc., etc., etc. while I’m at work, and dreaming up new gourmet pizza creations.

But just as soon as I had dedicated myself to buying books and pens and inks and papers, and planning dinner parties and dessert socials, my world was changed when I learned about the art of felting.

Felt slippers, felt jewelry, felt mystical creatures, felt real-life creatures, felt food, felt clothes?? All I can say is that there is so much felting to be done and so little time to do it in.

And too many books to read, clothes to sew, songs to listen to …

Song of the day: Thao & The Get Down Stay Down: Bag of Hammers.

Among the so many things to see on the Internet … this.

Maybe above fashion writing, doing something like this is my ultimate journalism dream job. Just the kind of anthropology/writing mash-up I’m looking for.

People are just so cool. I mean, a 90-year-old mozzarella maker who wakes up at 2 am every day … and, of particular interest, a Mormon missionary.
